National Mochi Festival in Ichinoseki

Ichinoseki continues to pride itself on promoting and preserving its prevalent mochi culture. This sticky-rice delicacy is not only a quintessential part of traditional washoku or Japanese cuisine, but its versatility allows it to evolve.

There is no better way to show-case this than at the Ichinoseki Mochi Summit. This event brings local mochi enthusiasts and those from all over Japan together to show off their special creations.

Mochi Summit (prior years)

Twenty-seven vendors will participate, and there will be large 'mochi maki' events where mochi are tossed into the air for people to scramble and catch! Mochi-maki will be held at 13:30 on Saturday the 10th, and 10:00 and 13:00 on Sunday the 11th.

This year, The Ichinoseki-Hiraizumi Hot Air Balloon Festival 2026 will also be held on the same days in close proximity!
