The ILC (International Linear Collider) is a highly anticipated particle accelerator that would be built in a 20km long tunnel (which could be extended to 50kms depending on findings) in the Kitakami Mountains of Iwate Prefecture, Japan. This next-generation accelerator will compliment the LHC in CERN in its research of the Higgs particle and help unlock many mysteries of the universe. As this is an international project, researchers from around the globe are cooperating to make the ILC a reality. In March 2019, the Japanese Government expressed their interest in the project but have yet to commit to hosting it.
Ichinoseki City welcomes the ILC and hopes to continue working towards the realization of one of the biggest and most important projects in modern physics.
